At Edward Street Preschool our kindergarten programs provide children with opportunities to learn about themselves, other people and the world around them. We believe in the importance of imparting a sense of confidence and competence, as well as a sense of joy and wonder in life and learning. The role of teachers and educators is to facilitate and guide each child’s interests, extending their abilities in many developmental areas that embody a holistic image of the child.
At Edward Street Preschool the kindergarten programs provide learning environments that are play-oriented. A play oriented program enables children the freedom to express themselves in their own way and to approach each experience at their own individual levels. As a result children develop a multitude of skills, concepts, understandings and attitudes. Through play, children are encouraged to explore and realise how thought, reasoning and imagination create consistent interactions between things. As early childhood educators we believe play is an intrinsic part of early childhood education.
